The 76ers fought and clawed to overtime. But, once again a loss was written in the books. Iguodala got back on track scoring 26, grabbing 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks. Again, he tallied 4 turnovers. Andre Miller performed well also, scoring 23 on 9-15 shooting. Louis Williams played fairly well, but tripped up on the final possession of the gam. Instead of a shot, the Sixers got a turnover. Game over.

Somehow the 76ers, a few times every year, manage to let some scrub on any given team score his career high. I wish I could quickly compile some stats on that statement - but I swear it’s true. Again, last night Andray Blatche (who?, exactly) scored 26 points off the bench. It was that kind of night. The Sixers lost badly, 116-101, and didn’t even make a real run. At the end of the 3rd quarter the 76ers were down 30. Sixers stand flat-footed for a rebound - (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta)
Iguodala shot 3-11 and Willie Green shot 3-13. The rest is just bad basketball. The highlight, again, was Louis Williams - 10-13 scoring 25 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.

Sixers News

The Sixers lost their previous 4 games by an average of 14 points. Most of the game it looked like the result would be the same. The 76ers were down 25 in the 2nd quarter, and at half time had only managed 27 points. Dalembert picked up his 5th foul at the 6 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. He only played 10 minutes. Then the Sixers made their run - or I should say, Louis Williams made his run. In the last 3 minutes of the third, Williams scored 10 points, bringing the score to 73-56. He continued this into the 4th, making two more buckets and stealing the ball. The deficit was then 13 and the 11,000+ in the stadium awoke. Williams scored 7 in the 4th, and Iguodala finished the run with a mid range jumper to seal the win. After doing almost nothing the fist half, Williams finished with 19 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds. Igoudala led the team with 22 points, but again had too many turnovers with 6. Iguodala is currently leading the league in TOs/game with 5.1. The best part of this comeback win (88-92) was that Maurice Cheeks learned his lesson from a few games back. He didn’t, like before, bring Andre Miller back in the game. He let Williams finish and the finish was sweet. I’m happy to say I was there to see it. The 76ers trailed most of the game, but continued to battle every step of the way. In the end the Sixers lost to the Raptors for the 2nd time this season, 105-103. This game competitive, and a good portion of that is thanks to Iguodala and Louis Williams. Iguodala had another solid all-around game with 26 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Williams scored 19 of his 21 in the 4th quarter, sparking the Sixers to a late comeback. His overall numbers again make me wonder why Miller gets so many minutes. In the 4th quarter Miller missed every attempt he took. Miller shot 40%, and racked up 7 assists with 2 TOs in 37 minutes. Williams scored 21 on 60% shooting, with 3 assists and 0 turnovers in just 20 minutes. Maybe Cheeks knows best - and believes that Williams isn’t ready to full minutes. But if this continues, the questions will continue to mount. Iguodala elevates against Bosh- (AP Photo/Rusty Kennedy)

Sixers (2-2) romp Bobcats (2-2)

Some games are just this way, when the opponent is down a key man (Raymond Felton is out at PG) and no matter what happens you can simply do no wrong. The 76ers stomped the Bobcats, 94-63. Other than a solid lopsided win there wasn’t a lot to call out. Willie Green played well shooting 50%. Andre Miller was not great (3 TOs) but didn’t jack up a lot of shots. Louis Williams played well in 24 minutes, scoring 7 and dishing 5 assists, with just 1 turnover. Iggy twists and turns, and still gets up a shot- (AP Photo/Rusty Kennedy)

Sixers News

I just got home from the 76ers home opener at the Wachova Center in South Philly. The 76ers lost to the Nets, 93-88. The game was pretty sloppy early on. I thought that neither team was gonna make it to 75. The 2nd half people starting getting going, and both teams made a few runs. The Nets were up 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The 76ers brought in Louis Williams and his sometimes erratic, but always energetic play changed the tone of the game. Dalembert and Collins struggle - (AP Photo/H. Rumph, Jr.)
By the 6 minute mark the game the Sixers were down just two. Then Mo Cheeks brought Andre Miller back in to run the show and clam things down. Within seconds he threw the ball away. (he got it back on a foul) The game continued to decline and the 76ers were never closer than 5 again.

I’m officially annoyed now. I’ve been hinting at this for days, but now it’s real. Andre Miller once again led the team in attempts. (16) There was a string of possessions in the 3rd quarter where Miller shot or drove (slowly) without anyone else even touching the ball. Is this the “pure point guard” that we need? Then on one of the final key possessions of the game Miller drives baseline and falling out of bounds dumps the ball into Dalembert. I don’t know how Sammy even got it, but it wasn’t the kind of play you run at a key moment. It was awful. I’m saying it now, by the end of the season Williams will be running the team. And I’m not a huge Louis Williams fan. He’s not ready to run this team. But in 19 minutes, Williams had 3 assists and 13 points, and 2 steals. Miller played 34 minutes to total 1 less point and equal stats. Oh and Williams shot 66%.

The 76ers got their 2nd win of the preseason against the Jason Kidd-less Nets, 91-83. No one shot above 50%, except Andre Miller who shot 8-10. The Sixers defense continues to look good against the 2nd and 3rd teir players of other teams. Louis Williams played only 8 minutes, odd. I don’t have much else to say about this game. But if this is the last warm up before the real season begin - well - there are still a lot of unanswered questions. Two grown men try and hold Iggy down - (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)

The Philadelphia Inquirer report of the game
The NBA news keeps coming. Most people agree the 76ers will stink something awful.

Other random news blurbs

The 76ers finally got their first win of the preseason (now 1-4) against the Boston Celtics: 76ers 96 - Celtics 78. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce sat out, but a win is a win, right? The whole team played reasonably well. Jason Smith had his best game yet, grabbing 9 rebounds and scoring 16 points. The only problem with that is this: the Celtics didn’t have anyone over 6′ 9″ on the court all night. Jason Smith is 7′ tall. Reggie Evans didn’t make a field goal again, putting him at 0-16 in preseason. Kover didn’t miss a 3 and the 76ers had 6 people in double figure scoring. Louis Williams only played 17 minutes, but his numbers look good. Jason Smith battles for rebound - (AP Photo/Fred Beckham)

Sporting news game recap

Well, I got my first look, in-person, at the new, young and hungry Philadelphia 76ers. The team promises hardwork, grittiness, and some other intangibles. They mention nothing about winning. Don’t wanna over promise, that’s clear.

I’ll start with the superficial good stuff. Andre Iguodala has been hitting the weights and looks like he’s in amazing shape. His shot is looking good, he’s still attacking the basket, and he had 6 assists. The arena has been updated some. The old light bulb scoreboards are gone - replaced by all digital, full-color signage. The design wasn’t so hot, but that’s a minor thing. Korver was back on the court, shooting as often as possible.

Now the not so good. Jason Smith is not ready. Calvin Booth got zero rebounds in 19 minutes of play. If Samuel Dalembert is out for any extended period of time then the Sixers are in serious trouble. Of Sammy’s five years in the NBA, in only two did he play all 82 games. Andre Miller did not look good.  He’s never had a good looking shot, but it was really flat and bad. There has been a ton of talk about Louis Williams. I have to say that he is not ready to run the team. His shot is erratic, his decision making is far from good. There were several plays late in the game, when the game was still in the balance, where he made some really poor choices. I thought he was gonna get pulled. Mo Cheeks just called a timeout, talked to him and the madness continued.

So, 3 losses to undermanned teams. Utah is next, then Boston.
