Sixers (2-2) romp Bobcats (2-2)

Some games are just this way, when the opponent is down a key man (Raymond Felton is out at PG) and no matter what happens you can simply do no wrong. The 76ers stomped the Bobcats, 94-63. Other than a solid lopsided win there wasn’t a lot to call out. Willie Green played well shooting 50%. Andre Miller was not great (3 TOs) but didn’t jack up a lot of shots. Louis Williams played well in 24 minutes, scoring 7 and dishing 5 assists, with just 1 turnover. Iggy twists and turns, and still gets up a shot- (AP Photo/Rusty Kennedy)

Game News

Sixers News

I just got home from the 76ers home opener at the Wachova Center in South Philly. The 76ers lost to the Nets, 93-88. The game was pretty sloppy early on. I thought that neither team was gonna make it to 75. The 2nd half people starting getting going, and both teams made a few runs. The Nets were up 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The 76ers brought in Louis Williams and his sometimes erratic, but always energetic play changed the tone of the game. Dalembert and Collins struggle - (AP Photo/H. Rumph, Jr.)
By the 6 minute mark the game the Sixers were down just two. Then Mo Cheeks brought Andre Miller back in to run the show and clam things down. Within seconds he threw the ball away. (he got it back on a foul) The game continued to decline and the 76ers were never closer than 5 again.

I’m officially annoyed now. I’ve been hinting at this for days, but now it’s real. Andre Miller once again led the team in attempts. (16) There was a string of possessions in the 3rd quarter where Miller shot or drove (slowly) without anyone else even touching the ball. Is this the “pure point guard” that we need? Then on one of the final key possessions of the game Miller drives baseline and falling out of bounds dumps the ball into Dalembert. I don’t know how Sammy even got it, but it wasn’t the kind of play you run at a key moment. It was awful. I’m saying it now, by the end of the season Williams will be running the team. And I’m not a huge Louis Williams fan. He’s not ready to run this team. But in 19 minutes, Williams had 3 assists and 13 points, and 2 steals. Miller played 34 minutes to total 1 less point and equal stats. Oh and Williams shot 66%.

Sixers spoil Chicago home opener

The first spoiler of many to come, we hope, comes in game 2. The 76ers spoiled the Chicago Bulls home opener, winning 96-85. The Sixers pretty much led the entire game, but pulled away during the final five minutes with a 14-5 run. Andre Miller again led the team in attempts, again. He’s shooting the ball like it’s a contract year. Dalembert played solid, pulling 11 boards and scoring 14. Iguodala continues to fill the stat sheet (without an extension), scoring 22, grabbing 10 boards, 6 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks. Why would we give a guy like that an extension? Korver was the only player to play significant minutes off the bench. Calvin Booth continues to be a stiff earning 1+ million. Iguodala finishes the Bulls - (AP Photo/Jerry Lai)

and some Iguodala news

The 76ers got their 2nd win of the preseason against the Jason Kidd-less Nets, 91-83. No one shot above 50%, except Andre Miller who shot 8-10. The Sixers defense continues to look good against the 2nd and 3rd teir players of other teams. Louis Williams played only 8 minutes, odd. I don’t have much else to say about this game. But if this is the last warm up before the real season begin - well - there are still a lot of unanswered questions. Two grown men try and hold Iggy down - (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)

Sixers drop another to the Knicks

For the 2nd time this preseason the 76ers faced off against the New York Knicks. The end result was nearly the same. The Sixers lost 90 to 103. The squad shot under 40% and were handily outrebounded. They did show some effort on defense, forcing 24 turnovers. But, this is a shady Knicks team, not an elite group at all, and they played 15 players. Once again Andre Miller led the team in scoring and attempts. This just kills me. Everyone praises him for his “true point guard” status. Yeah he shot 50% this game but if this happens in the regular season I’m gonna revolt. Andre Miller confused and angry - (AP Photo/Frank Franklin II)

NBA Game recap

There’s been a ton of news around the 76ers over the past few days. I guess the NBA fever is pitching up. It’s surely not the team itself creating buzz.

Sixers lose 4th preseason game

Again the 76ers lose, taking their preseason record to 0-4. The Sixers started rookie Jason Smith at center over backup center Calvin Booth. He didn’t play worse than before, but Calvin Booth played just as horrible as a backup. Willie Green shot pretty well, shooting 6-11, scoring 15 points, but managed to achieve 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, but 2 turnovers. Andre Miller once again led the team in scoring and attempts. That just hurts my brain. You can read the ESPN recap here.

NBA Live 08 rankings, Sixers at #25

Kind of hard to believe, I know. These rankings are always skewed. EA Sports has the Raptors at #28 and they won the Sadlantic Division last year. They do have old Andre Miller on the point guard list at #16, Iggy at #7 for small forwards, and Sammy D at #19 for center. I think Iggy at #7 is very gracious, and Dalembert at center is questionable in of itself.
